Symantec Agreement 2007-2010
Symantec Agreement 2007-2010
Contract Introduction:
In October 2007, The Office of the Chancellor established a three-year agreement with Symantec, providing Enterprise-class AntiVirus protection for participating colleges and students in the system. Licenses cover desktops, servers, laptops, and e-mail systems, along with student rights.
The agreement also provides special pricing on most Symantec software titles. License coverage, and support will run through September 27th, 2010.
Student Use Implementation:
Symantec does not have a default recommended way to distribute software to students', all we require is that the School does its diligence to let students know about the terms of use before downloading. The terms of use have been included below, but in essence state that students can use the software as long as they are current students of the licensed institution.
1. Distribute via CD or Media. A lot of schools will use this method and have students sign a waiver that they understand that the software is theirs to use while a member of the licensed institution before they receive a CD.
2. Distribute via the Web: This is typically how most colleges distribute the software. When students are on the intranet, they can go to a specific site for the software download. By having it on the intranet, there's some assurance that the distribution will only go to those on campus. Additionally, by using the web, the school can post the terms on the website pre download.
3. Another way is to use access control software that forces students to have an AntiVirus program on their machine before they access the network. Symantec has a solution for this that can be added on, and can be purchased through the SHI-CIC/MNSCU Agreement. By default, Symantec Endpoint Protection is a Network Access Control client and can be used with Symantec Network Access Control solution.
Terms of student use:
Licensee allow Full-Time Equivalent Students to use a copy of the Software on their personal computers at no additional charge to the student. Licensee will assume responsibly for student's agreement to use the Software under the terms and conditions of the Symantec in-box license agreement and for limiting availability of the Software to Full-Time Equivalent Students only. In addition, Licensee will use reasonable efforts to see that students who are no longer registered students agree to remove the copy of the Software from their personal computers.
Support:
Symantec has assigned essential support contacts for each campus. Support instructions were e-mailed to each support contact. If you did not recieve your campus support entitlement, please contact your Syamantec Account Manager, Rob Wille.
You will also have access to mySupport, which is a support portal you can use to initiate and track cases. This is a great resource for those to use that are not listed as designated contacts as they will be able create and track support cases there.
